Cephalids

Cephalids are the cruel, avaricious rulers of the deep ocean. They love nothing more than gold and power – except for perhaps themselves. They are well-known for their glibness, which unlocks many doors for them (or many wallets).

The cephalids live in a loose undersea empire, whose few token laws the capricious beings often ignore for their own personal gain. Despite their untrustworthy reputation, cephalids are valued as merchants and information brokers. They frequently ally with the vedalken, who share their lust for power if not their chaotic nature.

A cephalid stands about six feet tall, with a bulbous head and mottled dark purple skin. Their eyes are large, their mouth is a black or purple beak, and two small gills are located beneath their eyes. Instead of arms they have four long tentacles; four more tentacles serve as legs; they can walk slowly and clumsily on land, but prefer to maneuver in water. They favor loose, flowing robes with elaborate embellishments of pearl, shell, and gems and precious metals purchased from surface-dwellers.
