Empire of Ald
The Noble Races
The founding races of the empire, the so-called Noble Races are a group of “civilized” (i.e., city-building) species. The term is rapidly losing any meaning as many more of the alleged “Wild Races” are finding citizenship within the empire and proving that an orc or goblin can be just as noble as a dwarf or giant. Still, the Noble Races continue to enjoy more rights under the empire’s laws than the recent goblin and orcish settlers.
The Wild Races
This is a general term for races that originated outside the empire, typically used as a bigoted label against such people. It’s not an exact term, either, as many debate whether wild elves should be counted among the Wild Races, if goblin and orc citizens still count as Wild, and if the recently-arrived serpentkin belong in this category or in another entirely. Generally speaking, using the term in front of a goblin, orc, or other member of other so-called “Wild Races” is considered an insult.
The Sea People
A number of water-breathing races dwell under the ocean to the empire’s east. They are considered neither Noble nor Wild; the cephalids and merrows are considered equal to the former and the sahuagin to the latter, but all are viewed as alien to land-dwellers. These races are not suitable for player characters, but still may play a role in the campaign.
